Remembrance 2025

Following the wonderful poppy display from the altar at last year’s Remembrance, our local WI is once again creating a beautiful display of poppies.   This year it will be bigger, across the village and they would love our help.

The display will include poppy-covered camouflage nets draped in key locations around the community, including outside the church and over the altar (from 1st November onwards). With over 450 poppies needed for each 3m x 2m net, every handmade flower really does make a difference!

Can You Help? You do not need to be an expert—just willing hands and some yarn!

Here’s what you need to know:

• Red poppies with black centres are traditional, but white or purple poppies are also welcome.
• Poppies can be knitted or crocheted, using any pattern you like. Please see some patterns via this link or pick up a printed copy from the church lobby.
• Double knitting wool is ideal, but any yarn will do. Some donated red and black wool is available if you’d like to take part but need supplies.
• Please thread a loop of wool through the centre of each poppy (with two loose ends), so they can be easily tied onto the nets.

The WI will be collecting poppies up until mid-October, after which the focus will shift to assembling the displays. (A few extra poppies after that date are fine, but not in large quantities.)

There is a collection box for finished poppies in the church lobby.   If you would like to come and craft with others, the WI would love to host an informal poppy-making session at the Welcome Tea Room on 1st and 15th August 2-4 pm.  All Welcome.
