Millennium Tapestry

What We Offer
The Millennium Tapestry was created by the Old Basing Stitchcraft Group to mark the millennium with a celebration of the spread of the Christian faith throughout the world over the previous 2000 years. Designed in 1997 by the late Christine Young, the group completed the tapestry over the following three years.
A spiral swirls round and up from the Holy Family at the birth of Jesus, through two thousand years, to God, seated in glory, holding St.Mary's, Old Basing, in his hands. Other landmarks are referenced in the body of the tapestry and the border, with its pattern of wheat and grapes, commemorates the continuation of the sharing of Holy Communion in the parish.
The tapestry hangs on the south wall, close to the font.
On the 23rd June, 2019 the Millenium Tapestry was dedicated to the memory of Christine Young by the Reverend Canon Ken Batt who went to school with Christine in Brockenhurst and had conducted her funeral service.
