What We Offer

Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.

(Matt 19)

We meet on a Sunday morning in the Parish Room at the same time as the 9.30am service in the church. The room is large, warm and light. There is a team of adults responsible for preparing and leading each session. The children are of primary school age, but older and younger children are welcome if they want to take part.

Activities are planned using ‘Roots’ magazine, which links to the Sunday readings in church, but also explores other stories and themes in the bible.

During the session children are given the opportunity to share their news and ideas within the group, and also times for quiet prayer and reflection. The activities are varied; including games, craft, drama, music, and weather permitting, make use of the beautiful church grounds.

Children are included in the service in church. At the start of the service they are welcomed by the priest, later, two children take in the children’s coin collection, and finally they join the whole congregation to receive a blessing or take communion. Children are all given a tea light candle to light with an adult while communion takes place.

It is a lovely group, and I speak as a person who has led activities at St. Mary’s for many years. It is a joy to see children, now adult, return with their own children, and a joy to meet new children - whether they become regular attenders or are just visiting for a while. So come and join in and make friends.
